I'd like to express our heart felt condolences to Kaz's family & friends at this very sad time.
I first met Kaz at Victory Lane Speedway here in Winnipeg. I was helping a friend with his racecar & Kaz was one of the official/nonofficial photographers at the track. He always made himself available to everyone who approached him. In the years our paths crossed I don't think I ever heard anything negative in his vocabulary. There were times I'd bring my own camera to the track & he would always be willing to help me with my own settings for some "great shots". He would just gleam all over when talking about anything to do with photography. Not going to be the same without you or your photo-scooter at the track my friend. May you rest easy knowing the smiles you brought to so many faces... RIP Kaz you will be missed by your racing family....

I met Kaz in 2000 while walking my dog at Little Mountain Park. After that we became close friends and would go together on our dog walks. I found Kaz to be such a unique individual with his kooky sense of humour and his smirk that always made me laugh. It was always interesting listening to him on his knowledge of a variety a subjects from mushrooms to astronomy and amazed me how he can retain so much information. A true artist in his photography and other creative works. I will always remember the adventures we did: canoeing, kayaking, hiking, shopping, going for lunches, the race track, road trips are just some of the things we did together.
I will truly miss you Kaz and will hang on to all these memories in my heart. Truly grateful that you entered into my life.
Rest in Peace Kaz. Give Wolfgang, Rescue, Polly, Dewey and all the other animals a big hug and kiss for me. xo

KAZ was above all a wordsmith, an orator.
Tremendous charm, tremendous wit, tremendous condemnation to those who deserved it.
So great to think of him, we will not get another.

Gerry and children and grandchildren.
So sorry for you all on the passing of Kaz. Truly one of the kindest humble person I ever had the privilege of knowing. He never had a bad word to say he was always friendly to anybody he met and if you were a first timer he had the care to introduce himself and shake your hand.
Then a few years pass and at the tracks he would aim his camera at me on the flagstand and I'd flip him the bird and he'd give a thumbs up and at the end of the night we'd shake hands or hug and be grateful for a nice night of racing..
.Long drives to tracks together discussing music and racing and heartening back
to the good old days when things were much more like they used to be!
Geez it was hot and dusty at the track.theres a little lake....do you have shorts? Nope...well neither do I....no one is here....2 whitest asses in the history of mankind skinny dipping.....bloody epic!!
Kaz...my brother from another mother....so missing you and my little boy John trying to figure out what the your passing is about.....I'm not going to see Uncle Kaz anymore?
I'm going to miss you and so are my kids.....the racing community will miss you......but we will take care that your family won't be forgotten because you'd do the same for us.
Godspeed my friend and hope there's a little pond up there so when I get to where you are we can go for a swim.
P.S. Now I gotta read the manual for my Canon camera.
Thanks for being an amazing friend Kaz.....love you brother

My condolences and love to Jerri and to Kaz’s family. He was the incredible man. Kaz was so prolific and fascinating. I was so fortunate to know him, he shared so many parts of his world to so many people. I miss you and love you Kaz. We’ll see you on the other side when the time comes. I hope you are having a laugh with Gord, your Mom and Dad. Your rescue animals must be so happy to see you, especially Dewey. Good night my sweet Kaz.

...there are some beautiful souls that pass through this world and we are sometimes lucky enough to recognize our good fortune in spending time with them, and Kaz was one of them...About 20 or 30 years ago Kaz and a few of the folks from the Valley, visitors and their kids were on top of Babcock Hill and the local kids were jumping and sliding down the steep cliff side. I've heard that cliff has since collapsed...but Kaz, being the adventurous and fun loving guy that he was, decided that he'd like to try that too, so he suddenly hurled himself over the precipice. It became clear pretty quickly that experienced and fearless locals who are 14 are, well, different than a middle aged man of Kaz' particular year & model, even if his spirit is just as youthful. Long story short, after seriously panicked cries of "Save me, save me (and various other colourful and vivid language that you all can guess) and seeing his poor leg quivering from fear with one foot on a little protruding rock and one hand clinging to a tiny plant, (at this point, without an intentional flare for the dramatic, he was yelling "I can't hang on much longer!") we gathered long ropes and I ventured down the cliff in order to tie him up, rappel and belay him down. I spent a lot of time in gravel pits as a Metis kid, so this wasn't even my first rodeo, hehe, but Kaz was not what I would describe as a small man. A small crowd had gathered, and at some point someone driving by called 911 and a rescue helicopter arrived on scene. Kaz was already down and gone by that time, so I gathered up the ropes, whined about my injuries (Kaz accidentally booted me few good ones, hehe, the term sack of potatoes comes to mind), and we headed back to Kim's B & B where we were all celebrating New Year's Eve or something. Low and behold, the helicopter was overhead at exactly the 520 moment that I found Kaz and his New Zealand friend already sitting in the hot tub, drink in hand. The sight of him happily raising a toast in a hot tub, the helicopter sent to save him flying right above him and the big beautifully childish, happy, if somewhat sheepish grin on his lovely face will be with me forever! For years when we saw each other he would say "Hello! Thanks again for saving my life!", but while it really was a joke, it was just so sweet the way he acknowledged things...he was always so happy and made so many friends...sigh...such a beautiful person, I am glad to have known him, for real and for true, as Kyra would say.
