Al, my summer brother from another mother, my childhood best friend. Your passing brings pain to my heart and soul but it is good to know you are in a much better place now and no longer suffering. I can only offer my heartfelt condolences to Karen and Danielle and hugs to my other summer brother Rick. It was unfortunate that we grew apart during our teen years but such is life. Fortunately I was able to reconnect with Al later in life and on occasion meet for brief chats. The many fond memories of our childhood escapades I hold dear and close to my heart. One I will never forget is Al, Mom Mallett and myself fishing. Mom and I were seriously trying to catch fish where-as Al dozed off in the rear of the boat and the fish continuously went to his line. He caught most of the fish that evening. Al, I will never forget you.

It was a stormy winnipeg winter day. Al shared his memories of another storm, where he used a blow torch on his wife's car as the tires were frozen to the ground. He was so proud he got the car out. Also shared memories of going to the bango bowl and the wonderful time he had. He would show such kindness to others making their days a little brighter. And yes, he loved his daughter and wife so much.

I went through school with Al from Tuxedo Park, through Laidlaw and then Shaftesbury. I always remember him as s gifted natural athlete, whether playing hockey at "the rinks" or softball before school started. Very sad. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. -- Tom Saunders
