Obituary of Al Mallett

Al Mallett, 66 years old, passed away on July 31st, 2023, after a long battle with his health.

Al was born in Toronto, ON, on February 1st, 1957, and adopted by Albert and Irene Mallett, bringing him to Winnipeg, MB, where he grew up in Tuxedo. In his young life, he loved being at Lake of the Woods in Keewatin at his family cottage and listening to rock music. He had a circle of lifelong friends who he loved and spent time with. They comforted him and brought him joy through his final days.

Al attended Tuxedo-Shaftesbury High School. After graduating, he had a successful career in the lumber industry beginning at Kilcona Lumber ending at Olympic Builders. He loved his job and had an incredible work ethic admired by his family. Al was a devoted Winnipeg sports fan, and never missed tuning into a Jets or Bomber game.

The love he had for his daughter Danielle was immense, and at every opportunity, he talked about his pride in her and the joy she brought him. They were the best of friends and she will miss him with all her heart. His wife Karen was a devoted advocate for his health and caregiver over many years. Their friendship was strong and rooted in their love for their daughter.

Left to cherish his memory are his immediate family, daughter Danielle and her Mom Karen, his brother Rick, and niece Julia. He will also be lovingly remembered by his in-laws Anne and Bruce Knicley, Jill (Carmen), Pamela (Graeme). He was preceded in passing by his mother Irene and father Albert.

Thank you to the healthcare team at Heritage Lodge for providing him with excellent care in his final years and days.

There will be a celebration of Al’s life on Sunday September 24, 2023 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, Stone Angel Brewing Company, 1875 Pembina Highway. Please bring any pictures you have and of course your best memories of Al.
