Back in the day when I was just a boy I will always remember Garves having a box full of books in the basement he inherited from Louis Eiffel. Some of these books were about Black political leaders such as Malcom. X, Booker T. Washington, Martin Luther King, Stokely Carmichael and Marcus Garvey. These political figures Garves looked up to.
Garves also loved his R&B Soul music, such entertainers like James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Eddie Kendricks and Aretha Franklin; But he love his soccer which was his passion.
Garves took over Spitfire Soccer Club in 1976 a Black Community Caribbean team and managed it all by himself. He changed the name to Ebonites; he recruited players, paid team registration every year, put on Social events to raise funds, played during the games, went to team meetings and was basically a one man band all by himself. He even had to deal with political and social change in order to keep the Club going.
Everything Garves did he did it with energy, you would be in a debate /argument with him and in the middle of it you and him would end up laughing with him. Just by the way he would express himself during the conversations. He was a kicks man. – LOL
People who knew Garves knows he had a good heart and meant well. At times it was difficult for him to show it. He cared for people, just by the way he would take time to ask you; how you were doing and concern he had towards others. He loved his family very much, had high morals, integrity and lots of pride. He knew his family loved him but struggled in letting us know that.
He was very much a “devils advocate”, he would argue with you till the “cows come home” Then when you asked him where he stands on subject matter. He would say he doesn’t really have a side but wanted to see what you believed. Having said all that ; Garves is with the The Lord now, where there is no more pain or sorrow.
God Bless You Garves, ; we miss U , R.I.P.
Your brother always and forever, Mevlyn!

Garves had that one-of-a-kind voice, smile and laughter that was uniquely him. As one of his numerous cousins, I will miss him!
